The Squizzy Classic Basketball Tournament

Saturday 1 st April and Sunday 2nd April 2023

Korumburra Basketball Stadium Elizabeth St, Korumburra Victoria

Myths and Legends Australia and the Wildcats Basketball Club are pleased to invite members to The Squizzy Classic Basketball Tournament to be held on Saturday 1st April and Sunday 2nd April 2023 at Korumburra Basketball Stadium - Elizabeth St, Korumburra Victoria.

The tournament commemorates the life and contribution of Dr Michael Francis Taylor, alias “Squizzy”. Michael was given the moniker “Squizzy” by one of his grade four teachers, and the nickname stuck with him throughout his adult life.

In his early years, whilst studying dentistry at Melbourne University, Michael began playing basketball, competing at the Melbourne Showgrounds and Albert Park Stadiums. In the late seventies, Michael set up his dentistry practice in Gippsland, where he played in the local Leongatha and Korumburra competitions. He was heavily involved with the development of the Meeniyan Basketball Stadium.

Michael competed for over 40 years, and made a significant social contribution to our sport, encouraging and welcoming fellow basketballers to the game. Regrettably, Michael passed in 2019, leaving behind three children Amy, Roy, and Kate.

Now that the worst of COVID 19 is behind us, we are keen to make this the successful Korumburra tournament ever. We would love to see lots of Masters teams entering, including:
