Brighty was born in Melbourne, Australia and began playing basketball as a junior with the Nunawading basketball program. He made his NBL debut with the South East Melbourne Magic at 20 years of age and played the 1993, 1994 and 1995 seasons under coach Brian Goorgian. In 1993, Brighty also represented Australian in the under 23 mens’ team. Brighty takes us on a walk down memory lane remembering the ‘magic of the Magic’, the ferocity of the Melbourne Tigers and the players and personalities of that iconic era in NBL and Australian basketball history …. Robert Rose, Sam MacKinnon, Rupert Sapwell, Adonis Jordan, Tony Ronaldson , Bruce Bolden, Chris Anstey, Jason Smith, Andrew Gaze and more. A long time masters basketball participant and advocate, Brighty is a foundation member of the ‘HasBeens’ - the most iconic team in mens’ masters basketball. Still playing today, Brighty is about to represent Australia in the 17th FIMBA World Maxibasketball Championship in Ticino Switzerland in 2025. Brighty coaches and mentors leading as well as up-and-coming players in the science of basketball efficiency, and has a uniquely forensic approach to understanding movement.
