First-Ever FIBA World Masters Open, 4-12 July 2026
Over the past 12 months, members of Myths and Legends and the Australian Masters Basketball Association (AMBA), have been working directly with the Federation of International Basketball (FIBA) in Geneva. FIBA is the world governing body for basketball, is an independent association formed by 213 National federations of basketball throughout the world (including Basketball Australia). The focus of our efforts has been to help FIBA develop a global masters basketball tournament.
We are delighted to announce that the first-ever FIBA World Masters Open will take place from July 4 to 12, 2026, in Corinth and Loutraki in Greece. This region is known as Western Attica and is approximately 1.5 hours west of Athens, the capital city of Greece.
- The event is expected to welcome over 300 5X5 basketball teams and 150 3x3 teams in two distinct competitions, with age categories beginning at 40+.
- Games will be played on quality indoor courts featuring wooden flooring, air conditioning, and welcoming spectator areas. Competitions will benefit from experienced officiating crews to ensure a professional and enjoyable environment for all participants.
- The event is designed as a summer celebration of the masters basketball community. Participants can expect an opening moment that highlights lifelong involvement in basketball and a closing celebration that brings everyone together to share the achievements of the week.
- A festive atmosphere will accompany the event throughout, with social gatherings, entertainment, opportunities to meet fellow players from around the world, and dedicated activities in the evenings.
- Beyond the court, the location offers the perfect setting for a memorable holiday. Families and friends can discover ancient landmarks, enjoy the beaches, explore local culture, taste Mediterranean cuisine, or join outdoor activities ranging from boat excursions to mountain adventures. The combination of competitive sport, community spirit, and the charm of Greece will make this inaugural edition a unique experience.
