VALE – Mike DANCIS (10.09.39 – 29.01.20)
The Myths & Legends Basketball Club was saddened by the passing of one of our members. Mike Dancis who was an elite player of the club and played in 18 tournaments with Myths & legends.
Latvian-born Miķelis “Mike” Dancis was only five when he fled to Germany to avoid the Soviet occupation with his older brother Juris “George” Dancis on the last ship from Liepāja at the end of World War II. After reaching Australia by way of the refugee camps in Germany, both brothers eventually ended up playing for the South Australia state basketball team, then Juris, followed by Miķelis also made the Olympic basketball team along with other Latvians and Lithuanians.

Taylor, Michael
Michael Taylor passed away at age 68 after a long battle with cancer that ended on Sunday the 21st April 2019
Michael played with the Myths & Legends at the 2002 World Masters Games, Melbourne.
- Total number of large Master’s tournaments played (e.g. Australian, Pan Pacs, Worlds, etc.) for the Myths & Legends was 22.
- Overseas Master’s tournaments: 2008 Guam, 2013 Turin, Italy. 2015 Orlando, USA, 2017 New Zealand.
- The Club committee has recently resolved to introduce an annual Michael Taylor memorial trophy at its’ July Bulleen tournament.
- Michael was a committee member at the time of his passing, he was a great clubman and a real gentleman.

Nasa CHAABANI.
The Myths & Legends Basketball Club was saddened by the passing of one of our members, Nasa Chaabani. Nasa played 5 tournaments with the club. Our sympathy and prayers to his family. Nasa’s involvement in our club was loved and respected. A Funeral Service was held on 21 June 2018. The Myths and Legends Club will miss you. Rest in Peace.

Stuchbury, Warwick
Played basketball 1950 to 2007. Played curtain raiser before Harlem Globetrotters in Woollongong. Greatest memory being awarded Life membership of Myths and Legends. Member of our two O/70 gold medal teams. Quiet achiever, always one of the first to register for tournaments. Life member.

Played at high level in youth. Hit 19 consecutive three point shots in a Masters game. Chief coach of Myths and Legends development squad. Life member.

Baird, Ken
Ken passed away on Monday 22nd April at the age of 90 after being in and out of bad health over the previous twelve months.
- Ken first played with the Myths & Legends at the 1995 Australian Masters Games in Melbourne.
- The number of World and Australian Master’s tournaments Ken played for the Myths & Legends was 26.
- Overseas Master’s tournaments included 2005 Edmonton, Canada, 2008 Guam & China, 2013 Turin, Italy.
- Ken had won two gold medals in World Masters Games and had also won the very prestigious Confederation of Australian Sports/Sportscover’s 2018 Clubbies Award for the Best Master’s Performance.
- Ken was a life member of the Myths & Legends Basketball Club and was recently made a life member of the Bulleen Templestowe Basketball Association for services he had provided to the association over 45 years.
- Ken at 89 was the oldest player ever to play basketball ball competitively in Australia and was an inspiration to his teammates at the Club.
